ICL Group, a global leader in bromine- and phosphorous-based flame retardants, is seeking novel flame retardants (FRs) for a range of applications, including electronics, vehicles, textiles, and paints and coatings. Halogen- and PFAS-free FR polymer materials and replacements for antimony trioxide (ATO) as a synergist to brominated FRs are of particular interest. 


Approaches of Interest: 

  • broad range of FR materials are of interest, including phosphorous-containing FRs, inorganic FRs, nitrogen-containing FRs, hybrid system FRs, nanodimensional FRs, or bio-based FRs 

Out of Scope: 

  • Metal oxide FRs 

Developmental Stages of Interest: 

  • Opportunities from TRL 3 (proof of concept) onwards are in scope 
  • Opportunities with validation in industry standard tests (e.g. UL 94, LOI) will be given priority

Submission of one-page, 200–300-word briefs is encouraged, along with any optional supplementary information e.g. relevant publications. This campaign is also open to submissions from SMEs and startup companies. In submitting to this campaign, you confirm that your submission contains only non-confidential information. 


Opportunity for Collaboration 

Our client is open to a range of collaboration opportunities, with the most appropriate outcome being decided on a case-by-case basis. Example outcomes include licensing assets, investment, and research collaborations, with example funding in the region of $100,000 for a maximum of one year to develop a proof of concept.
